PR Gimmick Won’t Stop Galamsey: Dr. Akua Amoako Blasts Mahama Over Civil Society Meeting

During a recent appearance on JoyNews’ AM Show, Dr. Akua Amoako, a member of the NPP media team, slammed President Mahama for meeting with civil society groups to discuss the galamsey issue. She said that the meeting was a public relations gimmick meant to divert attention away from the government’s incapacity to tackle illegal mining. She underlined that the activities outlined were inherited from previous administrations and did not provide new solutions to the current problem.
She expressed her disappointment with the government’s inability to follow campaign promises, notably the use of artificial intelligence to combat illegal mining, and highlighted the deteriorating situation, citing recent public clashes between officials.
She emphasized that the struggle against galamsey required more than military action and chastised the government for failing to repeal the Legislative Instrument governing small-scale mining. In all, she urged for real action, not excuses, to solve the galamsey issue.
