Ghana Tightens Passport Security—Ablakwa Warns: No Tolerance for Fraud!

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, has said that Ghana’s laws will be strictly enforced against foreigners who try to get Ghanaian passports illegally. He also told citizens that security has been improved through better technology and stricter border checks. At the opening of a Passport Application Center in the Savannah Region on December 31, he said that strong systems are in place to quickly catch criminals, especially those who are sneaking into places like Damongo to get passports. The Minister also said again that the government is committed to protecting Ghanaians living abroad, even though there have been reports of attacks and abuse. Salisu Bi-Awuribe, the Savannah Regional Minister, welcomed the new center and said it would cut down on travel time and costs for applicants. He also said that two acres of land have been set aside for a main passport office. Seven people got their passports during the ceremony.
