ICE Shooting in Minneapolis Sparks Protests—FBI Probes Deadly Encounter Amid Outrage

Source: BBC News

A US immigration officer shot and killed 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis, which led to protests. Federal officials said Good tried to run over ICE agents with her car, and the mayor of the city called the shooting careless. Videos show ICE agents getting close to Good’s SUV. When it tried to drive away, one of them shot several times. The FBI is looking into it.

As part of a White House effort to stop illegal immigration, hundreds of ICE agents were sent to Minneapolis not long ago. Trump said the agent was “viciously” run over and blamed the “Radical Left,” but local officials and residents disagreed, saying Good was helping his neighbors. Tim Walz, the governor of Minnesota, and other top Democrats called for a fair investigation, saying that federal accounts were wrong.

There were protests in Minneapolis and other US cities. Minneapolis Public Schools called off classes because they were worried about safety. The ICE deployment is going after people with deportation orders, including members of the Somali community, because of claims of welfare fraud. Critics say that ICE is making things worse instead of better.
