Agenda 111 scaled down to 35 hospitals, Mahama says no to building 111 at once, vows to recover funds from absentee contractors.

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the government will prioritise the completion of 35 hospitals under the Agenda 111 programme as part of a revised strategy to phase out the initiative and ensure stalled facilities are completed and operational, expressing concern that the original plan to construct 111 hospitals simultaneously without proper phasing led to several projects stalling at different stages with some contractors reportedly abandoning sites after receiving mobilisation funds; speaking during a courtesy call on the Northern Regional House of Chiefs on May 15, he said the government will commit funds this year to complete the first batch, with further allocations to follow in subsequent budgets, while also pursuing accountability measures to recover funds from defaulting contractors, and disclosed that faith-based organisations and private health operators are being engaged to adopt some facilities to support their completion and management as part of efforts to expand healthcare access and ensure value for money in public infrastructure delivery.
