Ato Forson Fires Big Shot: Mechanisation + Market Support to Transform Agriculture in 2026

In order to increase mechanization, productivity, and national food security, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson announced the deployment of more than 4,000 pieces of modern farming machinery across 50 agricultural districts as part of the 2026 Budget Statement, which also introduced a significant investment in Ghana’s agricultural sector through the rollout of Farmer Service Centers (FSCs). Dr. Forson emphasized that agriculture continues to be the foundation of Ghana’s economic revival and described the project as a major demonstration of support for farmers. He stated the instruments would improve land preparation, planting, spraying, and harvesting. In order to preserve farmer incomes and stabilize market prices, he also disclosed a GH₵200 million emergency intervention that President Mahama had ordered the National Food Buffer Stock Company to buy and store excess produce in the face of a national food glut. The goal of this combination market intervention and mechanization assistance policy is to fortify the agriculture industry and foster sustainable development until 2026.
