Ayariga Backs Creation of New Chiana/Paga Constituency—Says It’s Long Overdue!

Mahama Ayariga, the Majority Leader in Parliament and MP for Bawku Central, has said he will support calls to make a new constituency out of Chiana/Paga in the Upper East Region. He said the demand was valid and long overdue. At the first Azuko Festival in Sirigu to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Sirigu Naba’s enskinment, Ayariga said that promises to create a new constituency have been made over the past 12 years but have not been kept. This has led to fights during elections. The Chiana/Paga seat, which is in the Kassena/Nankana District, has 54,916 registered voters. The Paramount Chief of Sirigu, Naba Atogumdeya Roland Akwara III, and Chiana/Paga MP Nikyema Billa Alamzy both said that this makes it hard to represent people well because of the seat’s large size and population. Ayariga told chiefs, opinion leaders, and residents that he was with them and praised the chief’s work to build peace and improve the community. He also said that the government was still committed to rural development through programs in crop production, livestock, and commercial agriculture that would create jobs, boost the economy, and reduce the need for food imports.
