AYARIGA DROPS THE TAX MIC: E-LEVY GONE, COVID LEVY GONE — 2026 BUDGET GOES FULL RELIEF MODE
Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga said that the 2026 Budget gives Ghanaians much-needed tax breaks, which is a big change from how the last government did things. He said that doing rid of the E-Levy, COVID Levy, and 1.5% withholding tax on gold sales was a clear sign that the government was serious about lowering costs, boosting the small-scale mining industry, and stopping smuggling. Mr. Ayariga said that these steps indicate that the government is listening to what people want and that they would help boost the economy, increase the number of people who pay taxes, and restore trust in businesses. He said that the old administration relied on high taxes because of wasteful and inefficient spending. He stressed that smart spending, not high taxes, is what really keeps the economy stable. He said that the 2026 Budget is a strategy that focuses on people, helps families and companies, and puts Ghana on a road to long-term progress.
