Big Names, Big Trouble! Ofori-Atta & 5 Others Hit With Prosecution in GH¢125m SML Scandal
Former Minister of Finance Ken Ofori-Atta is one of six former high-level government officials that the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) wants to bring to justice for their alleged roles in the illegal and wasteful hiring of Strategic Mobilization Ghana Limited (SML) for revenue assurance contracts with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA). The trials will start before the end of November 2025. This is because of reports of wrongdoings in the buying process, bad value for money, and payments that were not earned. Ernest Akore, Emmanuel Kofi Nti, Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, Isaac Crentsil, and Kwadwo Damoh are some of the other people who will be tried. Kissi Agyebeng, the Special Prosecutor, said that the OSP would also get GH¢125 million back from SML for unfair gain. He said that SML didn’t have the technical know-how and got paid without any confirmed records, which cost the state a lot of money. The OSP praised the GRA for ending SML’s contracts and confirmed its dedication to openness, honesty, and responsibility in managing public resources.
