BOOM! Tamale High Court CANCELS Kpandai Poll — EC Told to Start Over!

Following a successful legal appeal, the 2024 parliamentary election results for the Kpandai seat have been invalidated by the Tamale High Court, which is headed by Justice Emmanuel Brew Plange. In addition, a new election has been ordered to take place within thirty days. Daniel Nsala Wakpal, a candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), was the individual who submitted the case. In the lawsuit, Wakpal said that there were many anomalies that marred the election, which was held on December 7, 2024. He claimed that there were anomalies in Form 8A (also known as the “pink sheet”) from 41 polling stations out of the total 152. He said that these breaches were in violation of Regulations 39 and 43 of the Public Elections Regulations (CI 127).The court concurred with the assertion that the violation of the rules and regulations pertaining to the election had an adverse impact on the overall credibility of the voting process, as was established in the court’s decision. In response, it has given the Electoral Commission (EC) the instruction to carry out a rerun of the parliamentary election over the whole constituency. Matthew Nyindam, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), was proclaimed the victor of the vote that took place in December and is now serving as the sitting Member of Parliament for the Kpandai constituency. This conflict that has to do with the law did not come into being out of nothing. On the day of the election, the collation center became a site of tension as a result of accusations made by supporters of the National Democratic Congress that the election had been rigged. There were claims that biometric verification devices (BVRs) were taken away, that votes were destroyed, and that impatience got out of hand, which led to the mobilization of security personnel. In his ruling, Justice Plange took a strong stance by calling on the EC to organize a re-poll that would be conducted in a manner that was transparent.
