Chief Justice Dismisses Petitions (EC Boss, Deputies, Special Prosecutor Stay in Office)
The Chief Justice, Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, has decided that the petitions asking for the removal of the Electoral Commission Chairperson, her deputies, and the Special Prosecutor do not make a strong enough case, which means that the process is over. The Presidency said that seven petitions were aimed at the leaders of the Electoral Commission and three others wanted the Special Prosecutor to be fired. On November 25, 2025, President John Dramani Mahama sent the petitions to the Chief Justice for a decision, as required by Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution and Section 15 of Act 959. The Chief Justice wrote to the President on January 26, 2026, to say that none of the petitions met the constitutional standard for further investigation. This settled the matter once and for all, allowing the officials to stay in office.
