Chief Whip: OSP Not Delivering for ¢250m Budget (Parliament Wants More Results)
Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, the Majority Chief Whip and South Dayi MP, has spoken out against the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP). He says that even though it gets about ¢250 million a year, it isn’t getting good results in terms of prosecutions and outcomes. He said on Joy News’ PM Express that the public and Parliament expected more from the office because it had a budget that allowed it to hire more staff, expand into new regions, and buy bulletproof cars. He said that he strongly supports the OSP’s anti-corruption mandate and helped pass the law that made it possible. However, he said that the problem is with the current office holder’s performance, not the institution itself. He said that Parliament is unhappy with the pace of work, but he also said that the OSP’s most recent mid-year report showed some improvement, especially in how clearly it reported on asset recovery. He said that for now, Parliament would give the office more time to improve instead of taking drastic action.
