Damongo Gets Passport Centre—Gov’t Completes Regional Rollout, Brings Services Closer to Citizens!

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, has officially opened a new Passport Application Center in Damongo. This is part of the government’s plan to set up passport offices in all 16 regional capitals as part of its plan to decentralize.

The commissioning ceremony on December 31, 2025, was a big step forward in making passport services easier for people to get. Mr. Ablakwa said that when he took office, there were only nine passport application centers in the country. This meant that many Ghanaians had to travel long distances to get the service. He said that the opening of the Damongo center completes the rollout across the country and makes services more accessible to people.

He said that new passport offices also opened in Bolgatanga, Dambai, Techiman, Goaso, Nalerigu, and Sefwi-Wiawso during the year. He said that these expansions were made possible by larger reforms that aimed to make passport administration stronger, more efficient, and more secure so that only eligible Ghanaians can get passports.

People from all walks of life, including traditional and political leaders, were very happy with the initiative. The Yagbonwura and the Savannah Regional Minister both said that the center was needed and would make a difference. They promised to help it run smoothly. They also said they would work to get the passport center a permanent office in the area.

Members of the Savannah Parliamentary Caucus also said they were hopeful. They said the new center would make things a lot easier for people who used to have to travel to other areas to get passports. In general, the commissioning was seen as a big step toward making public services better and decentralizing the country even more.
