GH¢11M VANISHES INTO FIRST-CLASS TICKETS? — MIIF BOSSES TRAVEL THE WORLD WITH NO APPROVAL
According to confidential documents that were obtained by JOYNEWS, the board and key management of the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) spent more than GH¢11 million on travel to foreign countries in the year 2024. This expenditure was carried out without the approval of the government, which is in violation of a directive issued by the Ministry of Finance in the year 2020. The directive requires clearance from the Chief of Staff before any such expenditure can be made. According to the report that was issued by the Ghana Audit Service, the journeys that were conducted did not have prior approval from the Chief of Staff, the sector minister, or the Chief Director. According to the human resources department of the Ministry of Interior and Foreign Affairs (MIIF), the Chief of Staff was notified about the trips, which were approved by the chief director or CEO of the organization. However, the previous CEO, Edward Nana Yaw Koranteng, maintained that the Chief of Staff was told, however auditors were unable to find any documentation to support this assertion. During her appearance before the Public Accounts Committee, Justina Nelson, who serves as the acting CEO, argued that the spending was essential in order to ensure the visibility of the Fund and to maintain the operations of the new office. According to the findings of an audit, MIIF spent more than two million Ghana cedis on sitting allowances over the years 2023 and 2024. The people who were mentioned in the report refused to make any statements.
