Ghana Aims High! $3.4 Billion Plan to Lead Africa’s Clean Energy Revolution—1,400MW Renewables, 400 Mini-Grids & More Solar Power on the Way!
John Abdulai Jinapor, the Minister of Energy and Green Transition for Ghana, has said that the nation is taking steps to establish itself as a leader on the continent in the field of clean energy by implementing a renewable energy action and investment plan that would cost $3.4 billion in United States currency. He made the announcement during his speech at REFA 2025 in Accra, stating that the five-year plan aims to achieve 1,400 megawatts of additional renewable energy, 400 mini-grids, more than 100 fast-charging stations, and the expansion of solar-powered agriculture. He emphasized the continuous progress that has been made, which includes the installation of a 16.8MW rooftop solar system on the continent of Africa, the biggest of its kind, as well as the development of a 200MW solar project that is projected to reach 1,000MW by the year 2032. Jinapor called for African governments and investors to take action together, positing that the continent has the capability to eradicate energy poverty via the use of its renewable resources, even if it is just a small portion, due to the fact that it has 60 percent of the world’s total solar potential.
