Ghana Undergoes Kimberley Review (Tightens Diamond Export Controls for 2027 Chairmanship)

As part of a compliance review under the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme, Ghana has made its diamond export system stronger to make sure that conflict diamonds don’t get into the global market. Sammy Gyamfi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, spoke at the start of the review mission in Accra. He said that Ghana is still committed to the international certification framework and is working to make sure that diamonds produced and exported from the country meet global standards and help the country’s development. The review, which took place from March 9 to 12 and was led by the Russian Federation, is checking to see if Ghana is following the rules for certification. Key institutions like the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, the Minerals Commission, and the Ghana Revenue Authority are helping with this by keeping strong export controls, traceability, and verification systems in place as Ghana gets ready to take over the chairmanship of the Kimberley Process in 2027.
