Ghana’s Mpox Count Climbs to 880 as Health Service Intensifies Response

As of November 20, 2025, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has announced that there have been 11 new cases of Mpox recorded in the country, increasing the total number of cases to 880. This update comes after a previous one on October 14, when the overall number of infections increased by 22, bringing the total to 735. The transmission of mpox occurs via intimate contact with those who are sick, and health authorities are advising the general public to keep up with proper hygiene practices and to report symptoms as soon as they appear. Symptoms of the disease include fever, rash, headache, muscular pains, enlarged lymph nodes, chills, and exhaustion. There were two patients who were hospitalized at the time of previous incidents in October, which included persons from the Western, Bono, Greater Accra, and Western North areas, with ages ranging from one to fifty. There are still three fatalities as a result of this epidemic. In addition, there have been a total of 3,506 suspected cases, and more than 3,800 contacts have been discovered since the outbreak first started. Workshops on atypical presentations of mpox, wound care, home isolation, and psychological support for staff members at ART sites, STI clinics, and other healthcare institutions in eight different locations have been organized by GHS in order to increase the effectiveness of its response. In addition, public education has been broadened to include weekly updates on social media and a telephone poll that is available in many languages in order to evaluate the level of knowledge. More than 14,490 individuals, who constitute 73.9 percent of the target population—the majority of whom are between the ages of 20 and 39—have received the vaccine as of the middle of October.
