GH¢199 million clears Free SHS feeding arrears, GETFund steps in to keep meals on students’ tables.

The Ghana Education Trust Fund has sent out three checks worth GH₵199,471,691 to pay off debts owed to suppliers of perishable goods for the Free Senior High School program (FSHS) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions. The payments cover the months of October 2025 to February 2026 for FSHSs and October to December 2025 for TVET. The fund said that the payment shows the government’s commitment to meeting its obligations to service providers who help with feeding and logistics, which eases supplier pressure and ensures that students across the country get the food they need without interruption. Daniel Fenyi of the Ghana Education Service confirmed the release and said that steps were being taken to send the money to schools with strict oversight to make sure it was used correctly. The move comes after a high-level meeting called by Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu to talk about delays in buying and paying for things that were putting school feeding operations at risk. There were reports of tensions between GETFund Administrator Paul Adjei and others, but no clear solution was found. GETFund will still be the main source of funding for the Free SHS program in 2026, with GH¢4.2 billion set aside to cover meals and other costs. This is expected to stabilize funding for secondary education across the country.
