GoldBod Boss: Bawa Rock Is Licensed—Dismisses Claims of ‘Mushroom’ Gold Trader
Sammy Gyamfi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), has called claims that Bawa Rock Company Limited is not registered or licensed to trade in gold false and misleading. He said that the company is a legally incorporated Ghanaian entity that was set up on January 15, 2015, and that trading in precious minerals is one of its main business activities. He said that the claims were false and that Bawa Rock has had a valid license from the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) to trade in gold since 2016 and has renewed it every year since then through 2025. Mr. Gyamfi stressed that the company is not a “mushroom” operation but has been in the business for a long time. He pointed out that it has been one of Ghana’s main gold suppliers and was a major supplier to aggregators under the Minerals Income Investment Fund’s Gold-for-Reserves program in 2024.
