Gov’t Orders 30% Female Leadership (Affirmative Action Act Pushes Gender Equity in Public Sector)
As part of its efforts to fix long-standing gender imbalances in leadership, the government has told all public institutions to follow the Affirmative Action Act, 2024 (Act 1121), which says that at least 30% of their employees must be women. At the Second Annual Conference for Women in Leadership in the Public Sector on February 18, Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang said that President John Dramani Mahama has ordered public service agencies to reach the 30% threshold this year, with a goal of 50% representation by 2030. She called the order a deliberate step to institutionalize gender equality and move national development goals forward.
