Gov’t Secures $200M World Bank Boost—More SHSs Set for Upgrade to Category A!
The government has secured a US$200 million funding package from the World Bank, with the possibility of scaling it up to US$250 million, to support the conversion of selected Category B and C Senior High Schools into Category A institutions and to expand infrastructure in some existing Category A schools, a move aimed at improving educational quality through better facilities and resources; the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, disclosed this at the commissioning of the Gloria Boatema Dadey–Nifa Basic School built by the KGL Foundation at Adukrom in the Okere District of the Eastern Region on Friday, January 9, 2026, explaining that about 30 Category C schools and several Category B schools will be upgraded, stating, “We have received funding from the World Bank of about US$200 million, and we are informed that this amount could be scaled up to US$250 million to convert a number of Category C and B schools to Category A,” he said.
