Gunmen Strike Again! One Dead, One Critical as Armed Attack Rocks Nangani

One Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) officer was killed and another is critically injured in a sad armed assault that occurred Sunday night in Nangani, in the Upper East Region’s Tempane District. Unknown shooters suspected of being bandits operating in the Bawku enclave are said to have carried out the event, which happened at an immigration checkpoint between 10:00 and 11:00 p.m. While returning from night duty on a motorcycle, the cops were attacked; one of them suffered a fractured leg, while his colleague was shot and killed. After being brought to Blessing Hospital in Wedama, both were then sent to Bolgatanga Regional Hospital, where one was declared dead and the other is still in critical condition. According to reports, the attackers took the officers’ service guns and ran away. Although the exact reason is unknown, investigators believe there may be a connection to an increase in cross-border criminal activities along the Ghana–Burkina Faso border. Joseph Mbilla, the chief executive of Tempane District, called the incident “barbaric and unfortunate” and said that security authorities are looking into it. He also mentioned that the military has been called in to strengthen border protection. Residents have called for increased surveillance and frequent joint patrols to protect both security personnel and civilians after the attack increased public concern over the rise in armed incidents in the Bawku enclave. Security analysts have noted that the area is vulnerable to armed groups, smugglers, and extremists due to its proximity to Sahel conflict zones and the ongoing Bawku conflict.
