Kumasi Tech Institute Gets Major Upgrade — €5.6m Green Technology Hub Unveiled

The opening of a €5.6 million Center of Excellence for Green Technologies at the Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI) has enhanced Germany and Ghana’s cooperation in sustainable energy and education. In Ghana’s quest for a sustainable, skills-driven economy, the event, which is co-led by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Ghana’s Minister of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, represents a major turning point. With specific programs in air conditioning, plumbing, mechanics, electronics, and industrial clothing, the center will act as a regional center for training, research, and innovation in renewable energy and green technology. According to Minister Iddrisu, the initiative is in line with Ghana’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) reforms, which are meant to provide young people skills necessary for the green economy of the twenty-first century. Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, complimented both countries for promoting industrial innovation and sustainable development, and hailed the effort as evidence of the robust Ghana-Germany collaboration. The center, which is funded by Germany via organizations like GIZ, highlights Ghana’s increasing standing as a trustworthy partner in green technology and education and reaffirms its commitment to educating the next generation for a more resilient and clean future.
