Mahama: Ghana-Zimbabwe Ties Go Beyond Diplomacy (Mnangagwa Lauds Shared History, Development)
During a state dinner for Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, John Mahama said that Ghana and Zimbabwe’s relationship is based on their shared struggles for African freedom and is strengthened by strong personal ties, not just formal diplomacy. He talked about how leaders like Kwame Nkrumah and Robert Mugabe have shaped history. He mentioned Mugabe’s time living and working in Ghana and his marriage to Sally Mugabe as examples of strong ties that last, even joking about an outstanding traditional dowry. Mahama said that these ties show real solidarity and will continue to affect how the two countries work together. Mnangagwa praised Ghana’s progress in development and its role in hosting the African Continental Free Trade Area. He also said that Zimbabwe is ready to work together more closely through continental trade and shared economic goals, such as its goal of becoming an upper-middle-income economy by 2030.
