Mustapha Abdul-Hamid in Hot Seat: GH¢291m Extortion Case Unfolds — Millions Recovered
With strong evidence connecting them to criminal activity, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has made significant progress in its investigation of alleged financial crimes at the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), seizing assets worth over GH¢100 million and US$100,000, with more under tracing. Former NPA Chief Executive Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid is the subject of the investigation. He is on trial at the Criminal High Court in Accra for conspiracy to extort GH¢291.57 million and US$332,407 with two NPA officials, two counts of extortion (GH¢24 million and GH¢230,000), money laundering (GH¢15.34 million), and abuse of office for personal gain. He is charged with masterminding a massive fraud that resulted in losses surpassing GH¢291 million and US$330,000. The case highlights Ghana’s dedication to safeguarding public finances and guaranteeing accountability, according to the OSP. The next hearing is scheduled for November 13, 2025.
