NCA Cracks Down on Illegal Pay-TV Streaming—Piracy Now a National Security Threat!

The National Communications Authority (NCA) says it is doing more to stop people from illegally streaming pay-TV shows and movies online. They say that piracy is costing the government and the creative industry a lot of money and putting people at risk.

The NCA said in a press release on December 31, 2025, that a stakeholder committee led by the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations is working closely with the Cybersecurity Authority and Multichoice Ghana to find and shut down illegal streaming sites.

The NCA says that piracy is now a “triple threat.” It not only costs the government a lot of tax money, but it also hurts the creative industry by not letting content creators get paid what they deserve. The authority also warned that illegal streaming sites can put users at risk of serious cybersecurity threats like malware, phishing attacks, and data theft, in addition to the economic effects. It said that this shows a growing trend of seeing piracy as more than just an economic crime and as a threat to national security.

The NCA also said that the new DSTV subscription packages that went into effect on October 1, 2025, are still in effect and have led to a big rise in subscriptions. It also said that the stakeholder committee will keep talking to people in the industry to make sure prices are fair, rules are followed, and enforcement efforts are stronger.

The authority told people to protect themselves by only using legal and safe pay-TV services. They said that this helps the creative industry and keeps personal information and online safety safe.
