Nitiwul: Defence Minister Should Lead (Criticizes Gov’t Response to Burkina Terror Attack)
Dominic Nitiwul, a former Defence Minister and MP for Bimbilla, has criticized the government’s response to the recent terrorist attack on Ghanaian traders in Burkina Faso. He says that a real Defence Minister, not the Interior Minister, should have led the efforts since soldiers were directly involved. He said on February 18 that the Defence Ministry and the national security apparatus should have been in charge of investigations and preventive measures. After eight tomato traders were killed in an ambush, President John Dramani Mahama visited survivors at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra. The Ghana Armed Forces then airlifted others home for treatment and counseling. The President promised victims that the government would pay for their medical care and seek justice for the families of those who died.
