Nitiwul: NPP Can’t Afford 2028 Loss (Bawumia Is Safest Bet, No Room for First-Timers)

Dominic Nitiwul, a former defense minister, has warned that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) cannot afford to lose the 2028 elections. He said that losing would be bad for the party. He said on Joy News’ PM Express on Tuesday, “And the hard part for NPP is that we should never lose in 2028 because it will be disastrous for us.” He stressed that the party should not run a first-time presidential candidate. He said that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is still the safest choice and that they don’t have time to promote a new candidate. “I can tell you, in this election [NPP primaries], Bawumia is going to win,” he said. Nitiwul made it clear that this doesn’t take away from other candidates, saying, “That is not to take away anything from another candidate, whether it’s Ken, Bryan, Adutwum, or Kwabena Agyapong.” He also talked about Bawumia’s proven skills and clean record, saying, “He has shown that he’s very competent, not corrupt, and there’s nothing to find about Bawumia anymore.” He also said that Ghanaians have already judged him, saying, “As for the assessment, Ghanaians have done it already.” He also mentioned that Ghanaians have never voted for a first-time candidate before: “And the rule of thumb is always that Ghanaians have never voted for a first timer.” Nitiwul said that the party can’t take a chance on a new candidate. He said, “We can’t as an NPP, when you can get somebody who is the second time, and the person will win you the elections, we cannot risk,” and he said again, “We should never lose in 2028.”
