Post-Harvest Crisis? Gov’t Fires Back With GH¢100M Rescue for Farmers

The Cabinet has granted approval for an initial sum of GH¢100 million to be bestowed upon the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), that it may procure the surplus yield from farmers across the land. This noble endeavor seeks to avert the lamentable losses that follow the harvest and to fortify the security of sustenance for all. In a grand proclamation made during a gathering of the press in Accra on the thirtieth day of October, the esteemed Deputy Chief Executive of NAFCO, Osmend Amuah, did declare that the funds bestowed upon them have facilitated the acquisition of sixty thousand bags of rice, one hundred and twenty thousand bags of maize, and ten thousand bags of gari, all destined for the noble cause of emergency reserves. He observed that the intervention doth come in response to the entreaties of farmers seeking access to the market, amidst bounteous yields and scant storage.NAFCO hath also established a base price of GH¢5 per kilo for paddy rice, to safeguard the livelihoods of farmers, whilst the newly conceived National Food Reserve Programme doth aspire to preserve 10 per cent of Ghana’s yearly staple food consumption for times of need.
