Scholarship Reform Triumph! Bagbin Declares New Authority Officially Passed

A significant step toward modernizing the management and allocation of scholarships across the nation has been taken with the passage of the Ghana Scholarship Authority Bill by Parliament. The Ghana Scholarship Authority, a new organization created by the Act, is anticipated to improve openness, fortify supervision, and expedite scholarship administration throughout the country. Speaker Alban Bagbin declared the law properly passed after it passed its third reading and was unanimously approved by the public vote, which was introduced by Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu. Its passage comes after a previous suspension brought on by public concerns and appeals from the Citizens’ Coalition, a coalition of well-known people and civil society organizations that contended that a significant national reform shouldn’t be hurried under a certificate of urgency without more extensive consultation. Later, Haruna Iddrisu clarified that the halt was implemented at the Presidency’s recommendation to for more stakeholder involvement. Following the conclusion of those discussions and the resolution of the issues raised, Parliament met again and fully supported the amended law. With the establishment of the Ghana Scholarship Authority, it is anticipated that scholarship governance would enter a new age of efficiency and accountability, guaranteeing that funding reaches worthy recipients via enhanced monitoring, more transparent procedures, and more robust institutional frameworks.
