Vampire Flick ‘Sinners’ Shatters Oscar Record with 16 Nominations!

With 16 Oscar nominations, the vampire horror movie Sinners has broken the record of 14 held by All About Eve, Titanic, and La La Land. Michael B. Jordan, British co-stars Wunmi Mosaku and Delroy Lindo, and director Ryan Coogler are all up for awards. The film is also up for Best Picture. The movie has been called “more than just a horror” because it mixes vampires, racism in the American South, ex-gangster twins, Mississippi Delta folklore, and blues history.

The closest competitor this year is Leonardo DiCaprio’s thriller One Battle After Another, which has 13 nominations, including Best Actor, supporting roles for Benicio Del Toro, Sean Penn, and Teyana Taylor, and a directing nod for Paul Thomas Anderson. Timothée Chalamet in “Marty Supreme” (his third acting nomination), Jessie Buckley in “Hamnet” (the front-runner for Best Actress), and Emma Stone in “Bugonia” (now the youngest woman with seven acting nominations) are also strong candidates.

Non-English language performances got a record four acting nominations, and the fan-favorite animated movie Demon Hunters is in the running for Best Animated Feature and Best Song. Nick Cave (Train Dreams) and Jonny Greenwood (One Battle After Another) are also up for music awards. Maggie O’Farrell (Hamnet) is up for adapted screenplay, and Chloe Zhao is up for Best Director, making her the second woman to have more than one nomination. On March 15, 2026, the Oscars will be held in Hollywood.
