Twisted and Malicious! — Ken Agyapong Camp Denies Anti-Minority Statement

Reports that NPP presidential candidate Ken Ohene Agyapong asked Akans to “reject minorities” have been refuted by his campaign team, which calls the allegations untrue, deceptive, and meant to exacerbate ethnic tensions before the party’s primaries. Agyapong was actually addressing what the campaign described as “unprecedented tribal intimidation” against his supporters in parts of northern Ghana, where some chiefs, influential people, and MPs are allegedly pressuring delegates to vote along ethnic lines, according to a statement signed by spokesperson Kwasi Kwarteng. The statement further emphasized the dangers and social marginalization that anyone who had previously supported Agyapong or spoken out against election abuses faced. The campaign accused opponents of using a double standard, emphasizing that calling attention to such intimidation does not equate to advancing tribal politics, pointing out that comparable tribal attitudes in the North are often disregarded while being denounced in the South. In order to present Agyapong as a uniting force, it also cited his history of hiring Ghanaians from different ethnic origins. It also urged media sources to report responsibly in order to preserve party unity and equity during the competitive primary process.
