Tribunal Bill 2026 laid in Parliament, A-G Ayine moves to revive public tribunals and ease court congestion.

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Dr Dominic Ayine has laid the Tribunal Bill 2026 before Parliament to reintroduce public tribunals as part of efforts to strengthen the administration of justice and improve access to the courts.

If passed, the Bill will establish a reformed tribunal system to operate alongside the traditional courts, with constitutional backing, oversight mechanisms, and safeguards for due process and human rights.

The proposed legislation seeks to operationalise Article 126 of the Constitution, which provides for tribunals within Ghana’s judicial system but has remained largely inactive over the years.

According to Dr Ayine, the reforms are aimed at addressing gaps in the legal framework, reducing the courts’ case backlog, expanding access to justice, and promoting citizen participation in the adjudication process.
