The Public Tribunals Bill, which aims to expedite prosecutions for unlawful mining (galamsey) throughout the country, has been approved by the Cabinet, according to President John Mahama.According to the president, the bill’s adoption is poised to enhance measures against galamsey, highlighting the government’s devotion to environmental preservation and its desire to restrict illicit mining operations.The Public Tribunals Bill was passed by the Cabinet in order to bring matters pertaining to illicit mining before the public tribunals. They would make decisions more quickly and guarantee that justice is carried out, he said.”We will be able to process cases against illegal mining even faster if this goes into effect,” he said. This was mentioned by Mr. Mahama on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, when he met with the Christian Council at Jubilee House. He went on to say that the program is a component of the government’s larger plan to stop environmental deterioration and protect Ghana’s water and forest resources from the damaging effects of illicit mining.
