CID PETITIONED! Activist’s Illegal Mining Allegations Against 3 Regional Ministers Trigger Probe

Three Regional Ministers have been accused of unlawful mining, and the Ghana Police Service’s Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has been asked to begin a formal inquiry.Daniel Sasu Omari filed the petition on November 19, 2025, in response to statements made by Democracy Hub’s Head of Mobilization, Wendell Nana Yaw Yeboah, in a live broadcast on Aluta FM (92.1 MHz). Yeboah said in the broadcast that the Ashanti, Western, and Eastern Regional Ministers were engaged in illicit mining operations. The petition claims that the accusations, which were made public on November 18, were extensively disseminated and ran the danger of eroding public trust, warping national discourse, and diverting attention from the government’s continuing efforts to stop illicit mining—a battle that the President has consistently prioritized.Yeboah subsequently apologized and withdrew his remarks after receiving criticism from the public and requests for proof, acknowledging that his assertions were unfounded. The retraction is an attachment to the petition.Despite the apologies, Omari contends that the CID must conduct an independent inquiry due to the gravity of the first allegation. According to him, the investigation is required to find the truth, ascertain if the accusations were made maliciously, and stop such incidents in the future that may harm public figures’ reputations. The petition asks the CID to ask Yeboah, the producer and presenter of the Aluta FM show, to help with the investigations and to provide any supporting documentation for the initial allegations.
