$60 Million WIN! U.S. Drops Tariffs on Ghana Cocoa — Ablakwa Announces Big Breakthrough!
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ghana, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has said that the United States has officially reduced the 15 percent tariffs that were placed on cocoa and several agricultural goods that were imported from Ghana. As a result of the new executive order that was issued by President Trump, the decision went into effect on November 13, 2025, as stated by the Minister. “The 15% tariff reversal came into effect on November 13, 2025, following President Trump’s new Executive Order,” Mr. Ablakwa said in a Facebook post, quoting the confirmation of the tariff reversal by diplomats from the United States. He further said that the list of items that are now free from the tariff includes, but is not limited to, cashew nuts, avocados, bananas, mangos, oranges, limes, plantains, pineapples, guavas, coconuts, ginger, and a variety of peppers—all of which are significant exports of Ghana. In addition to cashew nuts, avocados, bananas, mangos, oranges, limes, plantains, pineapples, guavas, coconuts, ginger, and a variety of peppers, the list of items that are now exempt from the tariff includes, but is not limited to, cocoa beans. Ghana’s cocoa business is greatly benefiting from this change in policy. According to the Minister, the annual cocoa bean exports from Ghana to the United States are projected to be about 78,000 metric tons, and the current spot prices are around $5,300 per metric ton. This means that the reversal of this situation might result in an extra yearly income of nearly US$60 million (which is equivalent to 667 million GHS). The move has been met with approval in Ghana, with Mr. Ablakwa going on to say, “The United States of America and Ghana will continue to develop relations that are mutually beneficial and closer.” The executive order issued by President Trump on July 31, 2025, was followed by a tariff escalation that increased reciprocal duties on a number of nations, including Ghana, to the rate of 15%.
