Petition Filed! EC Official Seeks Removal of Chairperson Jean Mensa — 12 Allegations Listed

Joseph Blankson Adumadzie, an Electoral Commission (EC) employee, has officially petitioned President John Dramani Mahama to begin the process of dismissing Jean Mensa, the EC’s chairperson, and her two deputy members, Dr. Bossman Eric Asare and Samuel Tettey. He cites alleged misconduct that he claims jeopardizes the legitimacy of Ghana’s electoral system. Mr. Adumadzie verified in a statement released on Monday, November 24, that the petition was filed in accordance with Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution, which describes the process for dismissing the leaders of autonomous constitutional organizations. He disclosed that the petition is based on 12 counts of claimed misbehavior, but he refused to provide all the information necessary by law. Claims of favoritism, official abuse, and egregious ineptitude are among them. He claims that the three senior officials’ actions have damaged public trust in the EC and jeopardized the independence and integrity of Ghana’s election process. Mr. Adumadzie emphasized the importance of preserving the dignity of the Electoral Commission, which is crucial to guaranteeing a legitimate democratic system, and said that his actions are motivated only by the desire to defend the Constitution and bolster responsible government. In line with Article 146 protocols, he added urged President Mahama to fulfill his constitutional duty by forwarding the petition to the Chief Justice for the creation of a prima facie case.
