Water & Electricity Tariffs Up in 2026! GWCL Vows Reliable Service Despite 15.92% Hike—How Will Ghanaians Cope With Rising Costs?
The Communications Manager for the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), Stanley Martey, has promised citizens of Ghana that the utility would continue to provide water services with efficiency even if new pricing rises are scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2026. His remarks were made in response to the Philippine Urban Water Regulatory Commission’s (PURC) statement that it had completed its Multi-Year Tariff Review for the years 2026–2030, which resulted in an increase of 15.92% in water prices and a 9.86% increase in power tariffs. According to Martey, the practice of collecting income on a daily basis assists the GWCL in managing operating expenses and maintaining services, even when they are under financial strain. According to the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), the modifications were determined by a number of factors, including output predictions, non-revenue water levels, planned investments, and the present state of the economy. The hikes are happening at a time when consumers are already struggling with the growing expenses of living, which forces utilities to find a balance between affordability and the sustainability of their services.
