Ghana Pays $709M to Eurobond Holders—Finance Ministry Hails Debt Milestone
The government has paid holders of restructured Eurobond US$709 million before the due date.
The Finance Ministry said in a statement that this is a big step forward for Ghana’s efforts to recover from its debt and improve its economy.
This means that Eurobond holders will get a total of US$1.4 billion in payments in 2025 alone, which will be made up of US$349.52 million, US$349.52 million, and US$709.00 million.
It also said that the timely payment shows that Ghana is a trustworthy sovereign borrower and shows the government’s commitment to restoring investor confidence through clear, consistent, and disciplined debt-service practices.
Bringing the Economy Back to Normal
The Ministry of Finance went on to say that “Building on this achievement, the Government will intensify reforms in domestic revenue mobilization, public financial management, and public debt management.”
On the fiscal side, the government said that fiscal buffers will continue to be strengthened to help pay off debts and fund Ghana’s development agenda in a way that lasts.
It also said that “the government wants to thank the good people of Ghana for their support and understanding, which have been very important to the country’s economic recovery.”
The government also said that it will keep asking for patience and cooperation as more economic reforms are put in place in the next year to build on the progress made in 2025. It also said, “May 2026 be our best year yet.”
