GNPC Foundation (Scholarship Scheme)

Brief Overview: The GNPC Foundation Scholarship Scheme is designed to build critical human capacity for Ghana’s petroleum industry and support national development. The scheme addresses low local participation in the oil and gas sector by supporting brilliant but needy Ghanaian students to acquire relevant skills needed for the industry and other sectors of the economy. Scholarships are offered for both local and foreign studies.

Local Scholarship Criteria

Undergraduate

  • Must be a Ghanaian citizen.
  • Must have admission to a GTEC-accredited tertiary institution in Ghana.
  • Open to first-year and continuing students.
  • Applicant must not be benefiting from another scholarship.
  • First-year applicants must have six (6) WASSCE/SSSCE credit passes, including three core subjects (English, Mathematics, Integrated Science or Social Studies) and three relevant electives.
  • Credit passes: WASSCE A1–C6 or SSSCE A–D.
  • HND applicants must meet approved institutional entry requirements.
  • Continuing students must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 and submit results.

Postgraduate (Local)

  • Must be a Ghanaian citizen.
  • Must have admission to a postgraduate programme in Ghana.
  • Must have at least a Second Class Lower degree, subject to considerations such as regional balance, STEM focus, or disability.
  • Includes professional capacity-building programmes.

Foreign Scholarship Criteria

General Requirements

  • Admission letter.
  • Relevant academic certificates.
  • CV.
  • Academic and occupational references.
  • Research proposal (PhD only).
  • Passport photograph.
  • National Service Certificate.

Postgraduate (Foreign)

  • Must be a Ghanaian citizen.
  • Must have admission to a Master’s or PhD programme abroad.
  • Master’s applicants require at least a Second Class Lower degree; PhD applicants require a relevant postgraduate qualification.
  • Priority given to STEM, special needs, capacity-building programmes, lecturers in public institutions, persons with disability, and applicants with offers from tuition-free universities.
