Bawumia Camp: Cost of Living Up Despite Gains—‘Reset Feels Like Reverse!’
Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the Bawumia Campaign’s Director of Communications, says that the cost of living has gone up since the NDC took power. He calls the situation a “reverse” rather than a reset, even though inflation and the cedi have gone down. At the People’s Forum, where he talked about the government’s first year, he said that household spending is still rising faster than incomes, and that basic goods and services are getting more expensive. He said, “If this is a reset, then we are in trouble.” He also said, “The views from the People’s Forum show that we are not experiencing a reset but a reverse, and the people are upset.” He said, “There is a disconnect between the policies the government is promoting and the evidence we see.” He also said, “They are upset because inflation and the dollar are falling, but the cost of living keeps going up.” He said, “If I am a teacher from Dodowa and you give me a 9% raise, but today I am spending more on electricity, water, school fees, and hostel fees, then it becomes a problem.” He stressed that “when electricity tariffs go up by 28%, it makes inflation coming down from 23% to 15% pointless,” and he ended by saying that “the indicators may be true, but they are not reflecting in our lives.”
