Ghana, Japan Deepen Ties (Bilateral Talks Target Trade, Education, and New Investment!)
On January 14, 2026, Ambassador Khadija Iddrisu, the Chief Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, met with Taro Kawase, the Director of the First Africa Division of Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to improve relations between Ghana and Japan. They talked about trade and investment, education, building capacity, and exchanges between people. Ambassador Iddrisu said again how much Ghana values Japan’s long-term support. He also talked about how the government wants to strengthen the partnership through high-level meetings and economic cooperation, and he mentioned upcoming milestone anniversaries as chances to raise public awareness of the partnership. Mr. Kawase talked about ongoing projects, like a joint Ghana-Japan public-private business mission with senior Japanese officials and 35 companies looking for investment opportunities. He said that there was a lot of interest in Ghana’s economy and that it was important to keep talking to help private sector decisions. Both sides agreed that more cooperation in education and university partnerships is important for developing human capital. They also talked about important anniversaries, such as the 100th anniversary of collaboration in the cocoa and chocolate value chain and Dr. Hideyo Noguchi’s work in Ghana, and agreed that these milestones should be used to celebrate their shared history and strengthen their ties.
