Gov’t Assures: Minimal Power Disruption During WAPCo Gas Maintenance on Jan 18
The government has promised that the West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) will not cause too much trouble with the electricity supply while it does scheduled maintenance on its gas facilities in Ghana on Sunday, January 18, 2026, from 6:00am to 3:00pm. The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition and the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) both said that the exercise will temporarily stop gas from getting to thermal power plants in Tema. However, they stressed that this is a necessary safety measure to make sure the gas pipeline infrastructure stays reliable in the long run. GRIDCo said that they have made arrangements for enough alternative fuel to keep power generation going and the electricity supply stable during this time. Stakeholders are closely watching the process to make sure it is finished on time. The company said sorry for any trouble and asked the public for help, saying that the work is needed to protect the country’s energy security.
