HON. AFENYO-MARKIN AND EDUCATIONAL TRANSFORMATION IN EFFUTU: A 2025 LEGACY OF VISION, AND LEADERSHIP ANCHORED IN EXECUTION, AND RESULTS
In 2025, the Effutu Constituency witnessed a defining chapter in its educational development, driven by the purposeful leadership of Hon. Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, Majority Leader of Parliament and Member of Parliament for Effutu. His interventions during the year stand as concrete evidence that visionary political leadership can translate into measurable human development outcomes. In both scale and intent, his impact on education in Effutu in 2025 places him among the most distinguished parliamentarians in Ghana’s Fourth Republic.
One of the most outstanding achievements of 2025 was the commissioning of the Richard C. Ekem Library and ICT Centre at Low-Cost. This facility significantly expanded access to books, digital learning tools, and ICT training for pupils, students, and young professionals. In an era where digital literacy defines competitiveness, this intervention directly aligned Effutu with Ghana’s broader education and digitalisation agenda. Complementing this was the commissioning of the George Kobina Lartey Sam Library at Dayasaw, further decentralising access to quality learning spaces and reinforcing a culture of reading and research at the community level.
Beyond infrastructure, Hon. Afenyo-Markin demonstrated a strong commitment to equity in basic education. In 2025, he donated educational materials to Ansaful M/A Basic School and Ayirebi M/A Basic School, easing the burden on parents and improving teaching and learning conditions. Such targeted support addresses a critical reality: according to national education data, the lack of basic learning materials remains a key contributor to poor learning outcomes at the basic level.
His concern for students extended beyond Ghana’s borders. In 2025, educational support for international students from Winneba underscored his belief that Effutu’s human capital must be nurtured to compete globally. This intervention projected Effutu as a constituency that invests not only in access but also in academic excellence.
Perhaps most impactful was his comprehensive support for candidates sitting the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (B.E.C.E.) across the Effutu Constituency. By reducing financial and material barriers for examination candidates, Hon. Afenyo-Markin directly supported hundreds of pupils at a critical transition point in their academic journey. Taken together, these interventions reflect a coherent education strategy anchored in access, quality, and opportunity. Hon. Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin’s 2025 record goes beyond ceremonial gestures; it is rooted in resilient systems, guided by human dignity, and validated by concrete, transformative impact. His contributions affirm his status as one of the most effective and forward-looking legislators in Ghana today, and a statesman whose legacy in education will endure for generations.
