Nana Kwame Bediako Denies $14.9M Debt (Says Case Still in Court, No Loan Taken)

Nana Kwame Bediako, the New Force’s candidate for president in 2024, has denied owing a US$14.9 million judgment debt that is being enforced in Ghana after a UK court ruling. He says the matter is still before the courts and due legal processes are still going on. He said in a statement on January 23 that the media had gotten the facts wrong. He stressed that he had never taken out a loan from Cola Holdings Limited or received any money personally. He went on to say that the loan in question was taken out by Kensington Residential Partners 1 Limited (KRP 1), a company that he and Azad Cola own together. Mr. Bediako said he was shocked when Cola Holdings sued him in the UK. He also said that a default judgment was made because his UK lawyers didn’t file a defense. He said that even though a Ghanaian High Court refused to cancel the registration of the foreign judgment, he told his lawyers to appeal and fight enforcement on the grounds that the judgment was fraudulently obtained and against public policy. He also accused Cola Holdings of abusing the court system by not disclosing parallel proceedings in Ghana. He said he believed in Ghana’s justice system and that the rule of law would win in the end.
