Sports Fund Board Inaugurated (Adams Hails New Era for Ghanaian Sports!)
Kofi Adams, Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, called the opening of the Ghana Sports Fund Board a turning point in the country’s sports history. He said it was made possible by President John Mahama’s political will, clear goals, and dedication to getting things done. At the ceremony, he said that the Fund, which was created through a Cabinet-approved policy process, the passage of the Sports Fund Bill in Parliament, and the President’s Assent under Act 1159, is a deliberate shift from treating sports as an afterthought to making it a key part of national development. He said that the Fund is meant to solve the long-standing problems of uneven and unpredictable funding by making sure that resources are used and managed in a clear way for athlete development, grassroots sports, infrastructure, capacity building, and high-performance preparation. It will also bring planning, fairness, and accountability into sports financing. Mr. Adams said that the Fund’s success depends on the Governing Board being independent, honest, and well-run. He also told federations to adopt structured planning and professionalism. He promised that the government would support the initiative with policy, and he was sure that it would change Ghana’s sports sector by helping athletes, strengthening institutions, and unlocking the country’s sporting potential.
