Bawumia Pledges Grassroots Inclusion (Vows Party Unity Ahead of NPP Flagbearer Poll)

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, a former vice president and candidate for the New Patriotic Party flagbearer, has promised to address long-standing concerns about neglect and exclusion among grassroots party members if he is elected flagbearer. Before the NPP’s presidential primaries on January 31, he wrote on Facebook asking delegates to support his bid. He said that if he won, it would be a step toward rebuilding a stronger and more united party. Dr. Bawumia, who has run for office across the country for nearly 20 years, including as Vice President from 2017 to 2025, said he understands the sacrifices of party supporters who often feel ignored after elections. He suggested things like making a full digital database to formally register and support members, connecting it to constituency and central monitoring units, decentralizing appointments by giving at least 10 positions to each constituency, and making a constituency-based national budget to encourage balanced growth. He said that the goals of the initiatives are to improve member welfare, increase inclusion, and bring the party back together before the 2028 general elections.
