DVLA Boss: 5% of Number Plates Are Fake (New RFID Tech to Fight Cloning!)

Julius Neequaye Kotey, the CEO of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), has said that about five percent of vehicle number plates in Ghana are fake. He talked about the need to centralize plate embossing under one authorized company on TV3 on January 25. He said this would make things safer because number plates are official documents that shouldn’t be made without permission. Kotey said that scammers often make copies of plates from cars that have been in accidents, farm equipment, or by lying on customs forms. The DVLA plans to fight this by adding RFID chips to new number plates. These chips will connect to toll systems and cloning detectors to help find and stop people from using fake plates, which will keep drivers safe and make oversight stronger.
