Nurse in Court for GH¢257k UK Visa Scam (Bail Set at GH¢150k)
Justice Kofi Boateng, a 34-year-old male nurse, has been charged with defrauding a trader of GH¢257,000 by pretending to help him get a visa to the UK. He denied the charge of defrauding by false pretenses and was released on bail of GH¢150,000 with two sureties, one of whom had to be justified. He also had to deposit his passport with the court and report to the police every two weeks. Prosecutors say that Boateng lied about being the Director of JB Travel and Tour, said he had a UK Certificate of Sponsorship, and got GH¢250,000 through a bank transfer and another GH¢7,000 through mobile money, but he didn’t get the visa. Later, the UK Embassy sent the complainant a letter saying they were not going to help, and the complainant called the police, which led to Boateng’s arrest. The case has been put off until March 24, 2026.
