Tema Oil Refinery to Boost Output (New Unit to Raise Capacity to 45,000 Barrels Daily)
As part of its plans to improve operations and output, Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) is getting ready to boost its production capacity. The refinery is adding an extra processing unit, the F61 unit, to its existing F1 unit and connecting it to the crude distillation system. This will allow it to process more crude oil, going from 28,000 barrels per stream day to 45,000 barrels per stream day. Management says the expansion is part of plans to revitalize the refinery and make it more useful to the oil industry. Engineers are now finishing up technical work to add the new unit. Corporate Affairs Officer Godwin Mahama Ayaba said in an interview on Citi FM on March 9 that the refinery is currently working under a tolling agreement. This means that private companies bring crude oil to the refinery, pay a processing fee, and then get the refined products. He also said that the F61 unit will increase output to 45,000 barrels per stream day. In the medium term, they are also thinking about expanding capacity to about 60,000 barrels per stream day.
