NCA: New SIM Re-Registration to Fix Past Flaws (No Cost to Ghanaians, Says Director-General)

The government wants to fix problems with previous SIM registration processes by holding a new one, according to Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko, Director-General of the National Communications Authority (NCA). On March 9, he talked about this on The Point of View with Bernard Avle. He said that this would be Ghana’s third official SIM registration. The first one in 2011 had problems with ID verification, and the second one was incomplete because it didn’t match up with the National Identification Authority for biometric validation. Ing. Fianko said that previous exercises found problems, such as fake IDs and photos, and stressed that the new exercise aims to create a trustworthy system that makes sure subscriber information is correct. He also told the public that Ghanaians would not have to pay for the re-registration.
